Once referred to as a ‘village of palaces’, Chelsea has long attracted the rich and famous. Henry VIII bought a home here, and in 1681, Charles II authorised the construction of the Royal Hospital Chelsea as a retreat for army veterans. The nearby King’s Road, one of the capital’s premier shopping destinations, is named after him.
